Noe Valley Parklets 1 & 2

Design Details:

A Parklet is a new type of Pavement to Parks Project. Instead of reclaiming a piece of underutilized roadway at an intersection, Parklets repurpose two to three parking stalls along a block as a space for people to relax, drink a cup of coffee, and enjoy the city around them. Parklets do this by building out a platform into the parking lane so that the grade of the sidewalk gets carried out into the parking lane. On the platform, benches, planters, landscaping, bike parking, and café tables and chairs (in certain locations) all come together to provide a welcoming new public space.

The Noe Valley Parklets 1&2, designed by Riyad Ghannam of RG-Architecture , include café seating and landscaping at these, the City’s 4th and 5th Parklet projects. Precast concrete tiles were used over a Bison Deck Support system. The planters were fabricated in San Francisco using core-ten steel. The landscaping used are all low-water species.

The Parklets are being maintained by the Noe Valley Association – the 24th Street community benefit district.

 

Funding:

The cost of the two Noe Valley Parklets was provided for by an economic development and public realm improvement grant to the Noe Valley Association by the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development.
